DIY Antique Frame for the Samsung Frame TV

We are in the middle of our living room update, and one thing that I really wanted was a Samsung Frame TV. It felt very extra to buy a new TV when the one that we have had forever works just fine, but I really did not want the focal point of this beautiful new fireplace we’re building to be a big black screen…

( & when I was able to easily convince B, I knew it was not such a bad idea lol).

I have incorporated a lot of antique frames in our house, so I knew that I wanted a similar frame for around the TV to make it look even more like a piece of art hanging on the fireplace. I’ve seen people talk about the Deco TV frames for a while, but if you know Brian, you know there is not a chance in heck that we would purchase a frame for around this TV when we can make it ourselves. I am going to share what worked for us making our own frame for our 50 inch Samsung Frame TV, and I hope it inspires you to try the same!

ps. I looked up a similar Deco TV Frame for a 50 inch TV, and was absolutely SHOCKED with the $649 price tag… ours cost a total of $60.

What you need:

(2) 2-1/4-in x 8-ft ornamental moulding

1-in x 4-in x 8-ft unfinished poplar board

2-in flat bracket (4 pack)

Gold spray paint

Rub ‘n buff (Antique Gold)

What to do:

Step 1: cut your poplar to size of your TV

We will give the measurements that we used for our 50 inch frame TV, but adjust accordingly based on the size of TV you purchase. We chose to use poplar wood because it paints well and it has less imperfections/knots in the wood than common pine board.

rip down width of board to 1-3/4-in

then cut board to length:

Cut top & bottom to 44-1/4-in

Cut each side to 28-7/8-in

We chose to put the seams at the top and bottom instead of on the sides that you would see more.

Step 2: assemble the frame

We used a pocket hole jig to attach the 4 pieces of the frame- it is very important that you keep the frame perfectly square to properly fit over the TV. We used a variety of squares and clamps to keep it square during the process.

Step 3: miter cut the decorative ornamental moulding to size

The width of the decorative moulding is 2-1.4-in wide which accounts for the inner 1/2-in overhang to cover the black frame that comes on the frame TV

Step 4: wood glue the decorative moulding on top of the poplar backing

Step 5: sand off excess glue squeeze out

Step 6: spray paint frame

Step 7: apply rub ‘n buff to areas to add a darker and more antiqued look- I like the antique gold color.

Step 8: mount frame to TV

carefully lay frame on the ground, and place the TV inside of the frame (moment of truth how accurate your cutting is!) Screw in the flat brackets to the frame but let overhang the TV simply to hold frame in place.

Ta- Da!

This was overall a very simple project, just be mindful when you are measuring and cutting your pieces to ensure accuracy! And the best part- it only cost about $60 compared to the VERY hefty online pricetag of $649

OK, so who is going to tackle a DIY deco frame for the frame TV now? You got this!
